About the Panel
Vanessa Johnson, JD, is a Co-Executive Director of Ribbon. She also serves as a senior advisor to the Ribbon Organizing Center for the HIV Age Positively initiative (ROC). In this role, she provides guidance to ROC’s leadership team on strategy, evaluation and policy issues. Vanessa’s extensive experience includes designing innovative programs and interventions, leadership development initiatives, and establishing collaborative relationships with various institutions, organizations, and individuals affected by HIV. Vanessa specializes in skill-building training for gender-responsive service delivery, trauma-informed recovery methods, and leadership development, sharing personal experiences related to HIV, trauma, and identity.

Sylvester Askins, Jr., has been living with HIV for 33 years. He joins the NWPC staff following a tenure on the Board. Sylvester served as Director of Health Programs at the Urban League of Hampton Roads, overseeing ULHR’s Ryan White program. He is also the founder and CEO of Moving Forward Consulting, which was established to assist persons living with HIV (PLWH) in accessing the information and resources needed to make informed decisions about reaching their employment goals and attaining long-term economic security. Before founding MFC, Sylvester worked at the Endependence Center, a Center for Independent Living (CIL) in Norfolk, VA. He coordinated the agency’s Ticket to Work Program, funded by the Social Security Administration. In this role, Sylvester assisted individuals with disabilities across all degrees of the disability spectrum to prepare for and obtain meaningful work. He has received training to perform as a Community Work Incentive Coordinator (Benefits Counselor).

Martha Cameron is originally from Zambia, Africa, where she was born and raised. Most recently, Martha worked in Executive Management roles for the International Community of Women Living with HIV (ICW) North America and The Women’s Collective (TWC), leading community health, human rights, and advocacy organizations in Washington, DC. Martha is actively involved in various other HIV Policy, Advocacy, and Research forums, including Positive Women’s Network, US PLWHA Caucus, DC Center for AIDS Research, and Georgetown University. She has a bachelor’s in Education and a Master’s in Public Health.
